The Top Five Things You Need on Your Healing Journey

As a Christian Counselor and Life Coach, I have seen and heard a lot. I noticed that over the years my clients have needed these top 5 things to stay on the course of their Healing Journey. Of course, there are other things you need, but these are my suggestions!

1. Holy Spirit- The Lord knows all things and sees all things. He is omnipresent and omnipotent. He knows exactly what our hearts need to help us to heal. While in session when the Lord brings something to my attention to help my client process later, my clients always tell me that the Lord meets them later to finish the conversation that we started in therapy to give them more clarity. How cool is that!!!

2. Vulnerability - A lot of people babysit or stuff down their pain for fear of what people will say. You cannot be helped if you are not willing to be vulnerable and transparent. Of course, it takes time to build trust with your therapist, but over time you should be H.O.T. Honest, Open, & Transparent if you want to maximize your healing and investment of your time and finances.

3. Safe Place - We all need a safe place to process our thoughts and feelings. Whether that is a trusted friend, a Therapist, a Life Coach, or Mentor. If you do not feel safe and heard and, it is very difficult to get what you need and be honest about what you are going through.

4. Boundaries - When you are engaging in your healing journey, others around you may not understand or they want you to stay the same as they see you growing and changing. I have heard clients say that loved ones have told them that they don't need therapy, or they can see them changing and don't like it. That's the whole point. To work on being better you!

5. Accountability - Yes, sometimes the journey can get lonely and hard, but remember that what happened to you is in the past. Now you must process that pain. When you have someone in your corner pushing you to keep going, they can give you the motivation you need to keep going!
