Overcoming Ten Stumbling Blocks for Christian Leaders: A Journey to Wholeness and Excellence
As Christian leaders, our utmost desire is to serve God wholeheartedly and lead His people with excellence. However, we often encounter stumbling blocks along the way. Life happens, and God uses these challenges to get our attention and guide us on a journey of faith and growth. In this blog, we will explore ten stumbling blocks that Christian leaders commonly face and discover how embracing these challenges can lead to personal transformation and fulfillment in our leadership roles.
1. Embracing Growing Pains:
In our pursuit of becoming everything that God calls us to be, we often experience growing pains. These discomforts arise from correction and stretching, challenging our fleshly desires. However, we must recognize the importance of this process, appreciating the transformative power it holds. Embracing these growing pains allows us to become the leaders God intends us to be.
2. Recognizing the Unique Calling:
Christian leaders are not cookie-cutter replicas; each one of us is fearfully and wonderfully made with a unique calling. It is crucial to understand and embrace our individuality, seeking God's guidance to unlock our full potential. By aligning our leadership style with our God-given attributes, we can lead authentically and effectively.
3. Learning from the Past:
Reflecting on our journey, we realize that our experiences, both victories, and failures, shape who we are today. As Christian leaders, it is essential to learn from the past, extracting valuable lessons and insights that equip us for future challenges. By acknowledging our mistakes and seeking God's forgiveness and wisdom, we can grow stronger and lead with humility.
4. Seeking Guidance and Mentorship:
No leader can thrive in isolation. It is crucial to seek guidance and mentorship from seasoned Christian leaders who have walked the path before us. Their wisdom and insights can provide valuable perspectives and help us navigate through difficult seasons. By humbly receiving counsel and investing in mentorship relationships, we can grow in wisdom and maturity.
5. Prioritizing Spiritual Nourishment:
Christian leaders often dedicate significant time and effort to serving others, but it is equally important to prioritize their own spiritual nourishment. Regular time spent in prayer, meditation, and studying the Word of God strengthens our relationship with Him and provides the spiritual sustenance needed to lead effectively. By nourishing our souls, we ensure that our leadership flows from a place of intimacy with God.
6. Balancing Work and Personal Life:
Leading in various areas, such as the marketplace, business, local church, or family, presents unique challenges in balancing work and personal life. Christian leaders must set healthy boundaries and prioritize their relationships with God, family, and themselves. By establishing boundaries aligned with God's principles, we maintain harmony and avoid burnout, enabling us to lead with passion and purpose.
7. Embracing Grace and Forgiveness:
As Christian leaders, we are not perfect. It is essential to embrace God's grace and extend it to ourselves and others. Forgiveness frees us from the burden of guilt and enables us to create an environment of grace within our leadership spheres. By cultivating a culture of forgiveness and extending grace, we create spaces for growth and transformation.
8. Cultivating Emotional Intelligence:
Leadership extends beyond skill and knowledge; it encompasses emotional intelligence. Understanding and managing our emotions, as well as empathizing with others, are vital qualities for effective Christian leadership. By developing emotional intelligence, we foster healthy relationships, resolve conflicts with grace, and build trust within our teams.
9. Embracing Change and Adaptability:
In a rapidly changing world, Christian leaders must be willing to embrace change and adapt to new circumstances. By remaining flexible and open to God's leading, we position ourselves to respond effectively

In this phase, I call them Growing Pains. Growing pains are necessary for us to be everything that God is calling us to be but growing pains hurt. It does not feel good to our flesh when are corrected and stretched. I have learned over the past fifteen years that this process is so important, and I often thank God for the process and journey even though it hurts because I would not be who I am today, and neither would you.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of counseling and coaching budding and Existing Christian Leaders to help them to evolve and become the best versions of themselves, God’s Way. You see, there is no cookie-cutter approach. Each Christian Leader is unique, and you are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Back in October 2022, the Lord gave me a specific message to share with Christian Leaders for them to examine and grow in. There were ten different areas and they all blessed me and were a refresher for me to keep allowing God into every area of my life as I lead. Even into the hard stuff. We are not perfect, and we thank God for His grace. How we grow, heal, evolve, and elevate in Him is dependent on us as we walk out of this thing called Life.
Whether you are a Believer leading in the Marketplace Ministry, In business, within your local church, leading and raising your family, "God’s Way" you are a Christian Leader and God desires for you to be whole and fully equipped to lead in Excellence and in a way that pleases Him and not necessarily people.
