Counseling God’s Lost Sheep as a Christian Counselor or Christian Life Coach

In my previous blog posts, I have shared a glimpse into my personal journey of how God called me into the field of Christian counseling and life coaching. In this blog, I want to delve deeper into my experiences and the unique approach I have adopted as a Christian counselor and Christian life coach. I must admit that I haven't always been sure of myself, confident, or equipped with all the answers. But here's the truth: none of us possess all the answers!  In these professions, you are always growing and always learning.  Here are some things to consider when Counseling God’s Lost Sheep, His Way!

Struggles and Self-Doubt:

Like many others, I faced struggles with rejection, fear, and feelings of inadequacy. As I embarked on the path of establishing my own counseling practice in 2017, I encountered valuable advice from seasoned business owners about the importance of finding a niche. So, I invested a significant amount of time in narrowing down my focus, and eventually, I discovered what truly resonated with me. While I was part of various Christian therapists' and Christian life coaching groups on social media, something was missing.

The Missing Element:

In those groups, the discussions were often clinical and biblically oriented, but there was a notable absence of discussions about the Holy Spirit. This realization prompted me to seek guidance from God and ask Him who I was called to serve. His response was clear: "My Lost Sheep." Subsequently, I recalled a well-known Bible story, "The Parable of the Lost Sheep," which my best friend and now she is a fellow therapist reminded me of.  In a nutshell, this story in the bible shared how we can be in the Church and still be lost.

Gaining Clarity:

I began to study the Parable of the Lost Sheep, the Parable of the Lost Coin, and the Parable of the Lost Son revisited, and it brought me immense clarity. In essence, God was teaching me that one could attend church diligently, pray fervently, minister to others faithfully, and appear to have it all together—and still be lost. He revealed that I had been fully equipped to aid His children in their healing journey, not only in terms of mental health but also in restoring their relationship with Him through therapy and life coaching.

Breaking the Stigma:

Clinically, my mission is to educate individuals about mental health and dispel the misconception that Christians do not need therapy. Simultaneously, as a Christian life coach, I strive to break the stigma associated with seeking guidance and support for life's challenges within Christian communities. I firmly believe that as we align our lives with God's Word, rely on the leading of the Holy Spirit, and work towards personal growth and purpose, we can experience transformation in all areas of life.

Over the years, I have discovered that many call themselves Christian Life Coaches and Christian Therapists, but they lack having a true relationship with the Holy Spirit.  Over the years, I have been crying out to God to raise up more of you who are truly after God’s own heart and allow Him to guide you as you counsel his people, His Way.  I had no idea during that time that God was specifically training me to lead the way and to be a leader in my field(s) to help them to be equipped and confident in who God has called them to be. In 2021, EmPowered Purpose Academy was birthed to Equiq Christian Life Coaches, Aspiring/Existing Christian Therapists, & Christian Leaders by providing Certifications, Training, and Continued Education!
